SG50 Mecha Build - Remembering our past, building our future

Earlier this year, Toymaker suggest the group of us to build something for commemorating our country Singapore. It our country golden jubilee and we wanted to show respect to our late Mr Lee Kuan Yew as well.

This build goes out to our pioneer generation for all the tough time that they have been through to make Singapore what she is right now. I want the kit to be modernize, keeping up to date while remembering our past.

It's only natural to use the RX-78 Gundam as the main kit to represent the pioneer generation as it is the first mobile suit in the Gundam franchise.

Looking forward, our country is still a young nation on the ascendant and freedom could be lost if we do not cherish or protect it. The crescent painted on the shield symbolize how important is it to defend what our pioneer generation have build for the nation.

The multiple shade of red and white to represent a modernize society, pervading it purity and virtue to all citizen.

Babartos Gundam - HAG Group Build

Glad to take part in this group build organize by HAG once again and honestly there were moments where I was thinking of completing it due to work commitment.
It been 6 months working in a new environment and the amount of work load is quite taxing, there wasn't much of a personal time left but at least there is enough time to sleep. Haha...

I feel relieve to be able to complete this kit otherwise it will definitely be back in the box.
There were some learning points that I pick up from this build, for example securing the kit in mid air with rods, paint chip with masking sol, using powder for addition details on the base and some other minor points. Since it was a really rush job, I wasn't able to fix those seam line which is kinda disappointing for me.

This will probably be the last kit that I complete in 2015 and I look forward to 2016 where I will wanna explore into other kit and design.

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility

This build is by far one of my favorite, having spend so much time and effort to work on it. I am glad I manage to complete and learn so many new things for GBWC 2015. Unfortunately it not up to my expectations as there are still mistakes that I could have avoided. Looking forward, I can only continue to learn from my mistake and do better than this.

Check out the creation process here.
2 - Sketches
3 - Realization of ideas
4 - Modelling - 01
5 - Modelling - 02
6 - It all about the base

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility - WIP-06

Presenting my entry in a different approach compare to what I have done previously.
I design the base that is related to Unicorn Gundam itself.
The base is in such a way that the top piece can be remove for working , and some inner support to handle the weight.
Psycho frame idea in mind, lights are able to shine thru the clear green acrylic. I didn't place any LED inside, cause I assume the exhibition case will be similar to last year GBWC where by the lights are shine from the bottom. I have no idea how it will looks yet, but I am looking forward to see it first hand on the actual day itself.
I seriously hope we are using the same exhibition shelf as last year. LOL :P

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility - WIP-05

Focusing on the upper body and silhouette, I keep jumping back and forth until I feel comfortable with the design. I try as much as possible to avoid common idea of full armour that can be found from the internet but it easier said than done.

Test fitted without the armour and a change of shoulder detail. Top is before, bottom is after.

With armour on and new details added.

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility - WIP-04

The detailing start pretty early since I am a slow modeller and there are alot of things to do.

Transfer the details from the MG over to HG and it was pretty challenging due to the size of the parts.

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility - WIP-03

With a clearer picture from the drawing I done, I was able to move forward with less confusion.
But it took me awhile to decide which scale of kit do I want to work with.

I have previously decided to use MG, until the PG was announce... then I thought of using HG cause there was so much I want to tell and PG was just too huge. The indecisiveness continue for weeks/months but finally it end some where in March.

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility - WIP-02

2015 is a good start for me because I had quit my job on the last month of 2014. For 6 months, I was freelancing, searching for a new job, building a reel and actively modelling gunpla. The search for identity returns and I began to reflect upon my past. There isn't any major change to my objective, it just that now I have more time to do what I love to do. Spending the time with my family and myself.

GBWC 2015: The Beast of Possibility - WIP-01

The decision to use Unicorn Gundam for GBWC 2015 started last year Episode 7 premiere.
I am not a UC fan but the story of Unicorn have capture my heart. Especially the part where Marida Cruz was lost, I am sure most of us felt something about it.

Petit'G Guy Group Build - HAW groupbuild

One month ago, Toymaker and HAW announce the next group build to be Petit'G Guy itself.
And for the first time, the gallery room was use for the GB.
There enough space for movement, the room was kept cool even with the it pack with participants.

Speaking of which, we are honored to have some of our neighbor modellers to join us for this gathering. Becky, Shermen, Raymond and Renny, thanks for dropping by today.

Now back to the GB... I felt that all the participants did a great job when it come to creative ideas.

Soooo... let's go through the entries!!!

MCON III - M WORKSHOP and Tamiya Stargek

Well this is my first time visiting MCON and it very different from other event like GBWC.
The displays are open for all, spacious for people to walk around (after 7pm), there are signage to inform you the category and warnings, security to ensure no clown trying to be funny with the open displays and lastly, lots of entries from tanks, planes, cars, figures and sci-fiction.

I have to say that the overall quality of the entries were great, I enjoy observing some of the tanks and figures as these are some areas I have yet to touch on.

Because of the overwhelming entries and a low batteries camera, I wasn't able to capture every single work piece. I heard there were some incident or accident since it open display so the security was very strict on how close I was to take the photos, so sadly I can't really shoot much close up shot. :(
I guess you will have to drop by for a better look.

Room lighting

Over the pass few years I been working mostly on character and seldom do I have a complete environment piece.

The assets for this piece was downloaded, the lighting, material and texture was done by me.
Light, texture and compositing this piece took about a day to complete.

Star Build Strike Gundam - HAG Group Build

This kit is meant for HAG Back to Basic Group Build. It focus is on the kit itself, tackling the foundation of scale modelers. The kit were limited to the current anime series Gundam Build Fighter.
This is the second kit that will partner Build Burning Gundam for the Group Build.

I have no intention of doing 2 kits knowing that I should spend the time to work on my cg art but Build Burning Gundam was enough to satisfy my modeling need. I took a while before deciding to get a second kit that is more challenging in the area of masking.
The main kit itself was normal but the Universal Booster was the killer...
With a quite a number of details on it, seam line being in the middle and all molded in one color, it is enough to get me excited all over again.

Build Burning Gundam - HAG Group Build

This kit is meant for HAG Back to Basic Group Build. It focus is on the kit itself, tackling the foundation of scale modelers. The kit were limited to the current anime series Gundam Build Fighter.

Since I had resign from my previous job, I had decided to save some cash and time so Build Burning Gundam was the first choice...

However... somewhere down the road, I went to get Star Build Strike T_T
Which I feel so guilty of because I'm spending even less time to work on my portfolio... haiz...
